Well, at least it wasn't snowing, and the wind wasn't
blowing, but it was still colder than a well digger's ass. Looks like we had a
little snow last night too, but the sun was shining bright and I was refreshed
from a night in a real bed, (although I'd have really rather camped). And at
least it gave me a chance to get my PC and phone charged up.
I headed southeast out of Tuba City on Hwy 264 across the Moenkopi Plateau and
through the Hopi Indian Reservation. It was a beautiful ride over the high
desert, but still bitterly cold.
I took US 91 south in Ganado down towards Chambers where I'd hop on I-40 for a
short twenty-two mile stint to Petrified Forest NP. I took my time cruising
through PFNP taking a lot of pictures and video.
Ruins and petro glyphs from Indians that inhabited the area around 1300 A.D.
Nobody knows exactly what caused them to leave.
I exited PFNP at the southern end and took US 180 down to Concho where I hit Hwy
61 and rode that into Show Low. I searched for a campground on my iphone and
found this great little place right on Show Low Lake just south of town. I
pitched my tent, cooked up some freeze-dried stew, and prepared for another cold
night. Good thing I invested in that good down bag from REI before I left.
Tomorrow I head south, and hopefully start getting into some warmer weather.
